Fox Sports Net and Mansionpoker.net have made a 3-year deal to broadcast a major poker tournament. This poker tournament will put 60 million dollars on the table to be won by one of the six players that will compete next summer. Both have also agreed in increasing the pots by 75 million dollars in 2007, and by 100 million dollars in 2008. FSN Vice President of production George Greenberg said that this event will shake not only the US poker scene but will become a global boom, by becoming the first single-day poker tournament in the history of the game.
Among the stars that will participate in the event, we find world%u2019s best Hold%u2019em player Phil Ivey. The first tournament begins in July 12. During six to ten hours players will compete to come out as winners.
Televised poker shows are increasing their popularity due to the big amounts cashed by winners. Only as an example, Australian%u2019s poker pro, Joseph Hachem, took home over 7 million dollars last July, after winning the 36th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. The popularity of these shows is attracting more and more multimedia production companies to the poker scene.
