American gamblers take another blow as another online sportsbook gives in to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act as it stops accepting players residing in the United States.
Officials from the Sportsbook located in
Curacao said the reason for stopping taking bets from Americans is because of growing difficulties doing business with American banks due to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act President Bush signed into law last October. The law makes it illegal for banks of financial institutions to transfer money from or to any account used for placing bets online.
A message on their web site said “After careful consideration, Pinnacle Sports has chosen to voluntarily exit the American market,” the company said on its Web site. “Accordingly, wagers will no longer be accepted from clients located in the United States as of Jan. 11.”
It as also posted on the site that they would still be accepting players from Canada and other countries, but American customers would all be cashed out and have their accounts closed.
The sportsbook said that since the passing of the bill, doing business with American banks has become too difficult so they are no longer going to deal with them and they would be expanding their operations in the European and Asian markets.
