NCAA expands FBI-assisted educational sessions to observe sports betting in Vegas during tournaments

The NCAA is trying to prevent its athletes from sports betting during the basketball tournaments. They plan to expand the FBI-assisted educational sessions for the men and women teams.

Traditionally, the FBI sessions where held only for the teams that participate in the Final Four. Now all the 16 college basketball teams that will participate in the semifinals will take part in the FBI sessions. In addition, NCAA representative will be placed in Las Vegas casinos to observe sports booking activity during the tournaments.

A study from 2003 showed that one in three men college athletes and one in ten women were involved in some type of sports betting, which is a violation of the NCAA rules. According to the study, 17 college basketball players and 102 college football players admitted they had received money for fixing their game.
