A bill to include casinos in smoke free work places passed the Senate Judiciary Committee vote.
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted for including casinos amongst Colorado workplaces where smoking is banned. In the beginning of February, Colorado House allowed excluding casinos from the smoking free workplaces.
Casinos employees testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee and spoke about their exposure to secondhand smoke. A casino worker with lung cancer spoke about the damage caused by allowing smoking in casinos.
The bill heads to the Senate, where it must receive minimum of 18 votes to pass the measure. Rep. Mike May, R-Parker, who promotes the bill, says the bill purpose is to protect working people from being exposed to smoke.
If the bill passes the full Senate, Colorado would be the 12th state to pass an inclusive ban smoking law in workplaces, after California, Delaware, New York, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Montana, Vermont, Washington and New Jersey.
