The Stratosphere Hotel and Casino is approaching the city of Las Vegas about building a nightclub atop the centerpiece tower of the hotel instead of the roller coaster, which was closed last December.
The Stratosphere executives were to present a site plan to the Las Vegas City Planning Commission on Sunday night. The idea here is to build a 6,880 square foot nightclub 900 feet in the air above Las Vegas. The nightclub would be on the towers 111th and 112th level and would include an outside observation deck that revolves.
They would have a 360 degree view that would easily be the most spectacular nightclub in Las Vegas, what with the view and all said a spokesman the other day.
Although no designs have been drawn up, the executives said the nightclub would take full advantage of a location atop the Stratosphere Tower, offering skyboxes and fantastic views of the city and the distant mountains.
The High Roller, a fixture at the Stratosphere since its opening in April 1996, it had carried some 4 million riders around the 32-degree banked track since opening. Work crews have been disassembling the 840-foot track over the past few months day in and day out.
The proposed nightclub is just one change being planned over the rest of the year by Stratosphere owner American Casino Entertainment Properties, which have many such changes planned. Plans include a small casino renovation and more entertainment offerings than it can include on a menu.
