Mexican Stud Poker or also commonly called 'Roll Your Own' is a relatively
new version of five-star stud poker game that can be played by four to
ten players at many an online poker room.
Initially two cards are dealt to each player face-down.
Each player chooses which card to turn and then turns that card into
a face-up position. The concealed card is the wild card. A round of
betting follows. Another face-down card is dealt to each poker player.
As before the player has to decide which card to turn face-up.
And the concealed card is the wild card for that player.
Another round of betting follows. These two actions are repeated
until each poker player has four face-up cards and one
wild card (the face-down card). After the last and final
round of betting, all the cards are revealed and the player
with the highest hand is declared as this poker game's winner.
Mexican Stud Poker Variations:
Because of this poker game's popularity, it has developed into
a few variations:
Dakota:
Three cards are dealt to each player and they have to
simultaneously turn a card up. After each betting round, each
receive one card and must turn one card. But before the poker player
receives his seventh card, he has to decide whether he wishes to
buy the option or not. Declining this option prevents that
player from turning up another card. But if he buys the option
by paying the maximum bet allowed, he can turn a card up normally.
As usual, after the final betting round all the poker players'
cards are revealed. Low and high hands split.
The high or low down cards are wild (and all other cards of the same rank)
Begin by dealing three cards until all poker players have seven
cards with the last one facing-up.
The last card is dealt face-down.
The low card down is the wild card in each online poker player's hands
