In 1988 on the Caribbean island, Aruba, a new variation of poker
was invented. This new variation was termed Caribbean Stud Poker or as it is generally
known as Caribbean Stud. Read below a concise description of Caribbean Stud Poker, how it is played at online poker rooms and tips and techniques to win when playing poker online.
Caribbean Stud Poker became very popular and spread rapidly from poker rooms to online poker rooms. One of
the reasons for the popularity of Caribbean Stud is its unique option to bet on a progressive pot.
Caribbean Stud Poker Basics
All online players as well as the dealer are each given five cards. Unlike most
poker games, all players play against the house. Every hand a player gets is compared
to that of the dealer's, and the strongest hands between them wins. Multiple winners
at a single round, unlike other poker games, are a common occurrence. The other unique option
is betting on a progressive jackpot.
The Caribbean Stud Poker Table
As you can imagine the Caribbean stud poker table is specially made to accommodate
7 players at a time and is differently designed than a regular poker table. Special
spots are marked on these kind of tables for placing the ante (marked "ANTE",0), and
for betting on the progressive jackpot (marked "BET").
-
To begin, the online poker players place their ante bets in the assigned place
on the poker table.
-
The players and the online poker dealer each are dealt 5 cards. While all
the players' cards are placed face-down only four of the dealer'cards are
placed face-down. One of the dealer's cards is placed in a face-up position. Relying on their
cards, each player has to decide whether to remain in the game or to fold.
-
If the online poker gambler decides that he wishes to remain,
he has to place a bet. This has to be twice the amount of the ante.
-
The poker room tries to open the game, but to do so it must have an ace-king
combination. If the online poker room doesn't have an ace-king combination,
each player receives their personal bet plus an amount equal to the ante.
-
But if he does have this combination, the online poker opens
the game and its cards are compared to each player's cards. If the
player loses, he loses his bets and the ante. If he wins, he gets
his wagers back and a sum equal to the ante wager according to the table below.
Winning Ratings:
- A pair or lower - even money
- Two pairs - your bet is doubled
- Three of a kind - your bet is tripled
- Full house - 7 times the bet.
- Four of a kind - 20 times the bet.
- Straight flush - 50 times the bet.
- Royal straight flush - 100 times the bet.
The Progressive Jackpot
This unique action means that an online poker user can bet on
the number of hands he will have of a certain sequence. To participate
the gambler places an additional bet at the start of every round.
Why is it called Progressive Jackpot? Because it keeps growing until
some gambler eventually wins it all by having a royal flush. But this
jackpot also pays smaller amount to gamblers that win with flushes or
higher. When the jackpot is won, it is reset to a fixed minimum amount
and grows again from there on. The payoff rates are as follows:
Flush = 200
Full House = 400
Four of a Kind = 2000
Straight Flush = one tenth of the jackpot
Royal Straight Flush = the whole jackpot (and minimum of 40,000).
The jackpot pays out even if the online casino wasn't able to
open the game that round. The order of payoffs out of the jack pot
is from the lowest to the highest, when more than one wins.
NOTE : If an online poker player has one of the jackpot-winning hands, and didn't
place the appropriate bet for participating in the jackpot he will not
be able to cash in on the jackpot winnings.
